Brain Pictures

There are two main types of lie-detectors on the market and the choice you make is critical to successful conclusions. For a free consultation or for testing please contact us

Polygraph. The polygraph has been around for nearly 100 years. The National Academy of Sciences determined the polygraph is too unreliable for screening. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1923 the polygraph inadmissible because there is no scientific basis for its working. The polygraph measures peripheral responses to lying.

fMRI. The US. Supreme Court has used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to help determine when a criminal is a juvenile versus an adult. The relevant scientific community supported the use of fMRI to help make this determination. The source of lying is in the brain and is what CEPHOS measures.

CEPHOS takes your situation seriously. For a free consultation or for testing please contact us.

How to become a client
If you would like to become our client, please contact CEPHOS for a free consultation. You, your attorney or health care professional may decide to sign a document stating that we represent you as our client and any conversations and results are privileged. See our legal notice.

Before your test
Before your test you, your attorney and a representative at CEPHOS will develop a set of questions composed of ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers. These questions will relate to the accusation questions and your alibi questions as well as baseline questions. The questions should be unambiguous and will be reviewed with you for clarity. At this time any questions that do not have clear answers should be removed and replaced.

Medications
CEPHOS request that you stop taking any prescription medications or over-the-counter medications before your test. Before you stop taking any medications you should discuss this with your health care professional. The affect of medications on the brain are not known at this time. Daily multivitamins do not need to be discontinued.

MRI Safety
MRI is an FDA approved imaging modality. No die or injection is required for this test. Numerous medical conditions may make MRI unsafe. Your CEPHOS' representative will ask you about metal and other preexisting medical conditions. If you have any of these conditions, it may be unsafe for you to have this test.

Day of your test
You are required to show up one hour before your scheduled MRI examination at SHIELDS MRI. At this time CEPHOS performs a urine drug screening test, if female a pregnancy test, and we administer a mental and physical health examination. After completing these, you practice answering the questions outside of the scanner on a computer. Once you complete these tests, you have your fMRI examination. The total time it takes for an examination is about 15 minutes. You are allowed a short break and then we perform a second fMRI examination. After you complete two fMRI examinations we will take a high resolution image of your brain.

Anomalous Findings
Professional imaging personnel take a high resolution scan of your brain that is interpreted by a board certified radiologist. Approximately 1-5% of subjects will have some abnormal finding. Most of these findings are of no significant consequence (e.g. sinus disease). Any result that may affect you will be disclosed to you.

Test results
CEPHOS presents preliminary findings to you within 2 days of your test. A CEPHOS’ representative discloses these results to you. If you would like a written report, CEPHOS will generate a report at no additional cost within 2 weeks of your examination. Your results are yours. CEPHOS will turn over all testing materials, results and questions to you at your written request and will permanently remove these records from our facilities.

Expert testimony
CEPHOS’ will testify on your behalf at trial. The cost of travel and expert testimony is an additional charge. Further, Dr. Andy Kozel and Dr. Mark George are independent experts and may be available for expert testimony.
