Dr. Laken founded Cephos and serves as its CEO and President.
Dr. Laken is a biotech leader with 25+ years of experience turning cutting-edge science into real clinical and commercial impact. My career spans genomics, molecular diagnostics, therapeutics, drug discovery, and medical devices, with hands-on experience across oncology, neuroscience, musculoskeletal medicine, gene therapy, mRNA and LNP technologies, and implantable medical systems.
Dr. Laken has also served as an adjunct professor of microbiology and genetics at Nashua Community College, where he secured accreditation for the institution’s first genetics course.
Dr. Laken has worked on over 1,000 criminal cases and is qualified as an expert in Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, the US Federal Court, Vermont, and Maine. A frequent lecturer for Mass CLE and CPCS.

Joel joined Cephos in the Spring of 2025 and is trained as a STRmix expert. Joel is Cephos' Technical Leader and is responsible for the majority of laboratory DNA observations.
Manager of diagnostic CLIA and clinical trial laboratory services and applied R&D projects with significant experience in assay development, technology transfer, and sample processing. Joel's work resulted in over 20 FDA-cleared DNA cancer diagnostic and screening tests. Including Exact Science's Cologuard test, Foundation Medicine F1CDx, and FL1CDx. Joel is experienced with CAP, CLIA, quality systems management, and assay validations.
